The Federation of Primary Health Aotearoa acknowledges initial recommendations in the NZ Health & Disability System review published today, for the development of local networks of care in community health.

The Federation developed a model “Developing Community Health and Wellbeing networks” which the Board delivered to the Minister of Health in May 2020.

“We are delighted to see that our recommendation to develop tier one integrated community networks has formed a core structural component within the Health review released today,” says Steve Chadwick, Federation Chair.

“We are also pleased to see an increased focus on population health, Maori equity and disability services to be delivered within a community setting.”

“We must change the way we deliver services to people around natural communities of interest that are shaped by needs of communities themselves. We can only achieve this when we work in a collaborative manner,’ says Ms Chadwick. “We are pleased that the review concurs with this particular tier one approach and we look forward to having a voice in helping to shape this work for better community health outcomes,” she says.

The Federation will analyse the review in detail and respond as appropriate.
