The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), the leading organisation representing pathologists in Australasia, has appointed Dr Michael Dray as the new President. Previously, Dr Dray held the position of Vice President of the RCPA for two years and prior to that, was Vice President of the RCPA in New Zealand for five years.

Dr Dray was welcomed as the new President in front of the Fellows at last week’s annual general meeting in Queenstown, New Zealand.
Chief Executive Officer of the RCPA, Dr Debra Graves said,

“The College and I are pleased to welcome our new RCPA President, Dr Michael Dray. We have worked with Dr Dray for many years now and are thrilled to see him take up the role as President. Dr Dray’s hard work and unwavering commitment to the College and the pathology profession is admirable and we look forward to working together with him in this role.”

Dr Dray takes over from A/Prof Bruce Latham who has come to the end of his two-year tenure in the role. Prior to his position as president, A/Prof Latham held the position of Vice President for two years from 2015 to 2017 and served on multiple committees in earlier years.

“We would like to thank A/Prof Latham for his service to the College over the last two years. He is a highly respected member of the RCPA and has been pivotal in maintaining the highest standards in pathology during his time as President,” said Doctor Graves.

Newly appointed President of the RCPA, Dr Michael Dray, said,

“I feel incredibly honoured to be taking this position as President of the College. Pathology is the foundation for the clinical practice of medicine, paving the way to the appropriate diagnosis, management and treatment of diseases, and it is essential that we continue work together to support and guide the pathology profession.”

Dr Dray is a consultant Anatomical Pathologist in Hamilton for the Waikato DHB laboratory where he is also the Clinical Unit Leader of the DHB laboratory service. He is a medical graduate of Otago University and spent his early years working in General Practice.
