The Federation of Primary Health Aotearoa New Zealand (the Federation) welcomed over 60 CEOs and Chairs of Primary Health organisations to its first Strategy Day. The meeting was held on 20 March in 2019.

Jim Lindsay, the CEO of the Federation, stated “The day was a huge success and shows the collective energy the primary health sector has to improve primary health for all New Zealanders.”

This is the first time that the Primary Health Sector has come together under the umbrella of the Federation to develop leadership on key issues affecting primary health.

The Director General of Health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, participated in a positive and engaging question and answer session.

The day was facilitated by John Ayling and the participants worked through a range of ideas and identified the first key issues that the Federation would progress.

They were:

  • Submitting to Health & Disability System Review
  • Responding to the Mental Health and Addictions Review with exemplars of Primary Health projects that are making difference to New Zealanders’ health
  • Leading a Primary Health initiative on ‘The First 1000 days’

The next steps will be developing the ideas and action points into a formal strategy for the Federation’s Board to consider.

Jim Lindsay continued on to say “I am excited to be leading an organisation that is committed to improving primary health for everyone. The Federation brings a wide range of professional expertise, energy and passion together.

The Federation’s strength is its broad base and collective wisdom.”
