Te Runanga O Toa Rangatira (TROTR) has consistently invited ASMS to conclude a collective agreement for our doctors and to explore a way forward for our dentists.

We have explained to ASMS on a number of occasions our reasons for not extending coverage to include dentists in the collective agreement that we have negotiated with our registered medical practitioners.

The terms and conditions of this collective agreement relate specifically to and are tailored for medical practitioners (our doctors); it is not designed for dentists and it would not be appropriate for both doctors and dentists to be covered by the same agreement.

TROTR absolutely refutes ASMS’s claims that we do not value our dentists. We have expressed the value that the dentists bring to our community.

We also refute ASMS’s claims that we have not shown good will and common sense with regards to this situation.

We put it back to ASMS that they return to negotiations with us, as a display of their good will and common sense – not only to resolve this issue for our dentists and doctors, but also for our many registered patients who will be greatly impacted should ASMS continue on the path they have chosen.

We remain committed to reaching an agreement.
