Care home’s failure to complete adequate assessments and documentation to keep resident safe - 23HDC01644

A care home has been found to have failed to provide a woman, aged in her 80s, with an appropriate standard of care while she was at her end-of-life stage. The woman was a resident at Heritage Lifecare Ltd on a palliative pathway, with end-stage lung cancer and COPD.
Aged Care Commissioner Carolyn Cooper found the facility had not completed full admission assessments, comprehensive care planning and essential wound documentation, among a string of other concerns.
Ms Cooper found Heritage Lifecare Ltd had breached the code, and ordered a written apology to the woman's family, as well as initiate staff training, among other changes.
