Lab drop-off option for bowel screening kits in Northland

Bowel screening has been made easier for people in Te Tai Tokerau with a new option to drop off completed kits at any of the seven Awanui Lab Collection Centres across the district.
As of today, 12 March 2025, eligible participants (60-74 years old) can return their completed kits by placing them in the green bowel screening box at the reception of the following Awanui Lab locations: Kaikohe, Kerikeri, Paihia, Kamo, Kensington Health, Onerahi, and Rust Avenue. Bowel screening aims to save lives by helping find bowel cancer at an early stage when it can often be successfully treated. Returning a completed kit is a crucial step in catching bowel cancer early.
Te Tai Tokerau Bowel Screening Programme Manager, Keri Edge, says this new service reduces barriers and makes bowel screening as simple as possible.
“By providing more drop-off locations, we’re giving people another option for returning their kit. The bowel screening test is quick and easy. We encourage everyone who receives a kit to complete it and drop it off or post it as soon as possible.”
If preferred, participants can continue to return their kits via post using the pre-paid envelope provided. The drop-off option is an added convenience, particularly for those who visit the Awanui Labs for other healthcare needs.
The bowel screening test is quick, simple and can be done at home. If you're eligible, complete your kit and return it - by post or at one of the Awanui Lab Collection Centres.
