Acknowledging the significant growth at CareHQ, the team is delighted to announce the appointment of Brett Butler as Chief Executive Officer, after two years at the helm as General Manager.

Regan Savage, Chair of Care HQ, says, “we’ve seen an increase in patient numbers year on year since our launch in the throes of the Covid-19 pandemic. General practices are also increasingly appreciating the benefit of having a telehealth partner to ensure their patients can receive healthcare support when they are unable to see their doctor.
Across 2024 CareHQ had more than 56,000 consults, which represents a 74% increase on the year prior. CareHQ has delivered over 120,000 consults since launch, including low cost access practice support and subsidised care for high needs groups.

Mr Savage says “Brett has played an integral role in our successful growth and this appointment to CEO reflects how much we value his contribution. Tens of thousands of New Zealanders and international visitors access CareHQ each year, in addition to support from their family GP. Brett is steering a fantastic team, with deep insight and care for our patients and medical practitioners at the core.”

Prior to CareHQ, Brett was part of the ProCare Group’s Executive Leadership Team as General Manager Health Services. Prior to this he held senior management roles at Southern Cross Health Society where he led business value streams, the product delivery and design team and the insurance analytics team.

Regan Savage, Chair of the CareHQ Board says: “Brett is a highly talented and passionate people leader, with great experience in the health sector. His strategic and commercial acumen will ensure CareHQ continues its significant growth trajectory.”

Butler acknowledges it is a challenging time for primary healthcare providers and stresses CareHQ’s non-enrolling telehealth service is designed to support, not replace, in-person practice.

“I’m extremely proud to be leading such a passionate team of expert GPs, nurses and support staff, all focused on providing the very best support for our general practice partners and enhancing patient outcomes through telehealth.”
Butler concludes, “CareHQ doctors and nurses also see telehealth as a way to practise medicine in a range of settings, beyond the bricks and mortar clinic.

“The modern workforce appreciates having the flexibility to choose how they work, where possible. We see this with our GPs and nurses with young families who need more flexibility along with doctors who still wish to practise medicine without the administrative aspect of owning and managing a general practice.”

Brett’s new role is effective immediately.
