The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (the College) has launched its CQI reaccreditation module as part of the Cornerstone Programme for practice’s wanting to maintain their CQI accreditation status.

The reaccreditation module was designed to extend a practice’s ongoing commitment to quality improvement and support the team to build upon their previously accredited CQI practice initiatives.

College Chief Executive Toby Beaglehole says, "Completion of the Cornerstone modules [CQI and Equity] is valuable for practices to strengthen the environment that our GPs train and work in. The modules support an ongoing commitment to providing timely, equitable and high standards of service to patients.

"The CQI module provides opportunity for teams to identify where there is room for improvement and work together to design and implement an effective solution. The objective is an efficient internal process and improved patient experience."

Dr Jane Cullen (PhD), Quality Improvement in Primary Care, who assisted the College in the development of the CQI reaccreditation module says, "CQI leads to improved patient outcomes by ensuring the care processes are constantly refined and fosters efficiency, reduces waste and enhances resource utilisation, all critical in resource-constrained settings.

"Scaling CQI promotes a culture of collaboration and learning across teams, improving staff morale and reducing burnout. This contributes to long-term sustainability by building adaptable, resilient practices that can better respond to changing healthcare needs and challenges which is very important in the current environment."

The reaccreditation module was piloted between June and September last year, with 13 practices successfully completing the module and earning their CQI reaccreditation.

The College spoke to some of the pilot practices to get their feedback and asked them to share their experiences and advice about why accreditation and reaccreditation is important. One of those practices was Raumati Road Surgery.

More information about the CQI reaccreditation module is available on the College website.
