Taranaki records third COVID-19 case this week

Today the Ministry of Health is reporting one new COVID-19 case for Taranaki, taking the region’s total number of active cases to three.

The new case is a known close contact of cases linked to the Hawkes Bay region and this person has been isolating in South Taranaki whilst waiting for test results.

Taranaki’s COVID-19 response manager, Gillian Campbell, says there will be some new locations of interest in Taranaki which will be updated on the Ministry of Health’s website COVID-19: Contact tracing locations of interest | Ministry of Health NZ.

“Details of these locations are currently being confirmed, but people who used the COVID-19 Tracer app to scan in at these locations will receive a push notification from the Ministry, so please follow the advice.”

The Ministry is also advising anyone who attended the Waikato music festival Soundsplash between 21-23 January to get tested.

Mrs Campbell says “All attendees must get tested immediately, if they haven’t already. Please inform the testing centre you were at the festival.

“Our advice remains the same for anyone in the region whose feeling unwell with even the mildest of symptoms, please get tested and isolate until your test results come back negative. If you test positive the Public Health team will be in contact with further advice.”

COVID-19 testing and vaccination is available seven days a week throughout Taranaki.
