Angus Chambers has been elected as the new chair of GenPro - the national representative body directly mandated by, and acting for contracted providers of general practice and urgent care centres across New Zealand.

At a meeting of the GenPro board on 13 June 2023, Dr Chambers (pictured) was unanimously elected as chair by the GenPro board of directors for the period through to the Association’s AGM and usual board election process in October 2023.

Dr Chambers is a Specialist General Practitioner at Riccarton Clinic in Christchurch. He was one of the founding members and deputy chair of GenPro.

Acknowledging the work of his predecessor, Dr Chambers paid tribute to the chairmanship of Dr Tim Malloy who had been GenPro’s chair since its establishment in 2020, “GenPro has become recognised as the national mandated voice for general practice and urgent care business owners. Under Dr Malloy’s leadership, our continuous growth has meant that we are increasingly able to advocate for our members and to hold to account the government and its officials in our pursuit of accessible, sustainable and high-quality services for all New Zealanders”, he says.

The appointment of a new chair was prompted by Dr Malloy’s resignation on personal grounds.

GenPro’s chief executive, Philip Grant, says, “Dr Malloy has worked selflessly for the members of GenPro and his passion for sustainable general practice is obvious. He has been a consistent voice for the sector, even during some recent periods of personal ill-health. Serving as chief executive during Dr Malloy’s tenure as chair has been a pleasure and his passion for general practice is somewhat infectious. I hope we can continue the good work he has done”.
