This week rangatahi Māori from the Kia Ora Hauora programme will have the opportunity to connect with mentors from the health sector to gain governance and leadership insight.

Kia Ora Hauora is a national career development initiative which was established in 2009 to increase the Māori health workforce. The programme supports Māori students, current health workers and community members who are interested in pursuing a career in any area of the health and disability sector. This is in support of the growth of a health workforce which reflects the communities that it serves.

At this week’s networking event, our students who have a passion for governance and leadership will have the opportunity to engage in whakawhanaungatanga with potential mentors and leaders from across the sector. Senior leaders from Counties Manukau, Northland and Waitematā DHBs have been invited, as well as representatives from NGOs working across the motu.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our students, but it is equally an important opportunity for existing leaders in health to both nurture and better understand the amazing potential in our community,’ says Riki Niania, GM, Kia Ora Hauora National Coordination Service. “As a Māori organisation we strongly advocate for Māori values in our programme and this is a great example where our current leaders can manaaki our young people to ensure they are supported to follow in their footsteps.”
