The board of directors of Comprehensive Care, a leading Auckland Primary Healthcare Organisation, has announced John Ross is leaving his role as Chief Executive of the organisation.

Comprehensive Care’s mission is to serve their community by championing, sourcing and sharing progressive and accessible health and wellbeing services with whānau at its heart. The organisation acts to deliver vital and important tools and services to the Doctors and Nurses who work in our communities - so that they can focus on doing what they do best - caring for people and their whānau.

John Ross has been leading Comprehensive Care for more than ten years and during this time has been instrumental in the successful amalgamation of Comprehensive Care out of three PHOs and the building of the organisation to its current team and provider network of more than 65 kaimahi, more than 40 health care providers and more than 210,000 enrolled patients. He has also been instrumental in the development of the organisation’s Whāngai programme, which offers a cultural competency framework for health care professionals to improve equity of health care for Māori.

“John has led with warmth and passion for equity and people-centred health care during his tenure at Comprehensive Care,” says Dr Heidi MacRae, Comprehensive Care Chairperson. “On the behalf of the Board and the team, we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Stephen Powell, Chief Financial Officer and General Manager of Business Support Services, will assume the role of Acting CEO.

“John has assembled a passionate and highly capable leadership team, and we are fortunate to have Steve step in as Acting CEO,” says Dr MacRae.

Dr MacRae says the Board will now commence recruitment for a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation through its next phase of development ensuring the needs of our primary carers and people are met.
