Focus on health technology at D5 Digital Government Showcase

The Ministry of Health is partnering with The University of Auckland to share health technology innovations at the D5 Digital Government Showcase in Wellington today.

With an emphasis on the future of digital, D5 brings together chief information officers, technology leaders, social innovators and future thinkers from business, non-profits and government. The 2018 summit has 5 focus areas: health, education and workforce, society, productive sectors and finance.

“Bringing together the world’s most advanced digital nations allows us to share best practice and learnings with other innovative countries. New Zealand is facing the same challenges as many other health care systems,” says Ann-Marie Cavanagh, Ministry of Health Chief Technology & Digital Services Officer.

“We know technology is going to be a huge driver of change for health care in the future. Harnessing digital and emerging technology is essential if we are to deliver better health outcomes for all New Zealanders,” Ms Cavanagh says.

The Ministry is focused on understanding the implications for the health system of new technologies including opportunities in automated systems, advanced analytics and personalised medicine. It works collaboratively with the sector to ensure a joined-up approach to embracing health technology.

The theme for the D5 2018 summit is ‘e kôre e taea e te whenu kotaki te whâriki te raranga’ — ‘one strand alone will not weave a tapestry’ — with a particular focus on digital rights.
