$20 incentive for every vaccination until the end of November

Anyone receiving a COVID-19 vaccination in Taranaki in the next two weeks will receive a $20 voucher.

The incentive is being offered to help maintain the momentum gained in the last few days.

Bevan Clayton-Smith, Taranaki COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, senior responsible officer said: “As a region, we are nearing the important milestone of 90% of the eligible population receiving their first dose.

“The news of the positive cases in Stratford has seen a real increase in the numbers of people coming forward to get vaccinated, and we are keen to maintain that momentum, particularly for those receiving their first dose.”

The $20 voucher system begins tomorrow (Tuesday 15 November) and finishes two weeks later (Tuesday 30 November).

The scheme includes the main vaccination centres in New Plymouth and Hāwera, and all participating GP clinics, pharmacies and Māori health providers.

Recipients will be able to choose from a limited range of vouchers, which may vary from clinic to clinic.

Every vaccination will be eligible for the incentive, regardless of it being a first or second dose.

Taranaki is currently sitting at 87% for first doses and 75 % for second doses (the national average is 90% and 81% respectively). Māori are at 74% for first doses and 57% for second doses.

“Those people who still need to receive their first dose, or are due for their second, should take advantage of our offer,” says Bevan. “If we want a fun Taranaki summer for everyone, then we absolutely have to reach that 90% mark.

“The cases last week only go to prove how Delta is waiting for that chance to gain a foothold in our province, which would see us lose the freedom to live our lives how we wish in order to keep people safe.

“Vaccination remains the most safe and effective way of protecting ourselves, our whānau, our community and the lifestyle we love.
