In a region which prides itself on its fierce independence and wears its isolation as a badge of honour, a small practice has weathered the loss of its owner GP, resisted being subsumed by the DHB and retained its autonomy, to become one of the few nurse and practice manager owned health centres in the country. Keira Stephenson caught up with two of the owners before their presentation at the Practice Managers and Administrators Association of New Zealand conference in September
