LISTEN AGAIN - Unwinding health reforms

Te Aka Whai Ora is no more.

The Māori Health Authority ceased to exist this week, its functions having been divided and dealt out to Te Whatu Ora and the Ministry of Health.

Today, I listened again to the last episode of System Fix with panellists and health policy experts Gabrielle Baker and Tim Tenbensel, all about the unwinding of the health reforms. Recorded back in March, so much of the discussion is relevant today:

• The impact of the closure of Te Aka Whai Ora on Māori patients and providers and the wider reforms.
• The resulting brake on the roll out of localities.
• The increased role for iwi Māori partnership boards and where all this leaves the Hauora Māori Advisory Committee. 
• A reminder that the Simpson report called for improved funding of primary care to achieve equity in health outcomes.
