Medical school in the 1970s taught students osteoarthritis was a wear-and-tear disorder of the articular cartilage, mostly treated with pills and, in severe cases, joint replacement. How have things moved on since then?

Over recent decades, there has been a better appreciation of the biological and mechanical contributors to osteoarthritis. Mechanical pain is improved
