Our research group has an existing relationship and are working with the kaumatua (older person, te reo Māori language) of Wairoa (a small isolated community with extensive flood damage, north of Napier, and cut off) on a project 'Aged Care in a Changing World'

We are distressed that the older people of Wairoa are disproportionately impacted by the recent weather events, many are out of their homes and have lost everything, and we would like to support the recovery directly with a contribution to Kahungunu Executive. Sarah Paku, the manager of the kaumatua services has indicated that cash is essential at this time, less so than stuff, and would prefer this through a direct channel so we have decided to just ask folk to support the Kaumatua of Wairoa in flood recovery.

If you would like to contribute please do so. This is an initiative from the gerontology research group through the School of Population Health, University of Auckland. Please do circulate widely if you think others in your networks would be interested.

Please make an online deposit with Wairoa in the reference line to.
