About our subscriptions: Frequently Asked Questions

IN GENERAL

There are a variety of New Zealand Doctor | Rata Aotearoa subscriptions available – how do I know which one is suitable for me?
It is most likely you will belong to one of three groups
1) General practice clinical staff – GPs, NPs and practice nurses - $198
2) GPEP registrar - free
3) Everyone else - $230

Why are the rates such odd numbers?
You might wonder why we don’t round up the subscription rate but it includes GST. Many subscribers will claim the GST back as a business expense and we thought it was easier for them to see the full price, including the GST they will claim back.

GPs, NPs AND PRACTICE NURSES

What does the the annual subscription for GPs, NPs and practice nurses provide?
The annual subscription for GPs, NPs and practice nurses of $198 includes a fortnightly copy of the newspaper sent to an address of your choice, full access to nzdoctor.co.nz, and our email newsletter Daily Triage, delivered to your inbox each weekday. This print and online subscription also includes three free Classified advertisements, online and print, over a 12-month period. The free Classified ads are available only to individual subscribers. Businesses, organisations and institutions should use the Professional Classified service.

Why is the subscription in my name and not the practice name?

The annual subscription for GPs, NPs and practice nurses of $198 is for individuals, giving you your own copy of the paper and personal login to our website. If the practice wants a subscription for non-clinicians, then that would be an “Other Folks” subscription.

There are a few of us at the practice who want subscriptions. Can I get a discount?
That’s great. We have discounts available for multiple subscriptions with the newspaper delivered to the same practice address. Please contact us for pricing by email to enquiries@thehealthmedia.co.nz

Can I pay just for online access and not receive the print publication?
Yes, you can have an annual online only subscription. This costs $230. Some people are surprised it costs more than the combined print and online subscription, but the costs of running and maintaining a website are high and are subsidised by advertising revenue from the print product. So we encourage people to receive the printed newspaper. Also, the website, with its daily dose of news, contains more content than we can fit into our fortnightly newspaper.

GPEP REGISTRARS

I’m a GPEP registrar but I am not receiving New Zealand Doctor. What do I do?
Congratulations on being on the General Practice Education Programme. We need more GPs. We do not have access to a list of the new registrars each year, so to receive your free subscription you need to click on the GPEP subscription option on the subscription page. We offer a free subscription to all GPEP registrars for the three years of their training because we think New Zealand Doctor is the ideal way to get an understanding of the speciality you are joining – its clinical, professional and political faces. We hope after three years you will continue to support us by becoming a paying subscriber. Tell your friends about us. Your subscription includes a fortnightly copy of the newspaper sent to an address of your choice, full access to nzdoctor.co.nz, and delivered into your email inbox each day, our email newsletter Daily Triage.

I’m a rural hospital registrar. Can I get a free subscription?
Sorry, the free subscription is for GPEP registrars only. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking of you. If you are enrolled as a rural hospital registrar you are eligible for a discounted subscription. Contact enquiries@thehealthmedia.co.nz for more information.

ONLINE SUBSCRIPTIONS

What do I get with a personal online subscription?
An annual personal online subscription is $230. The website, with its daily dose of news, contains more content than we can fit into our fortnightly newspaper. With your personal online subscription you will get 24-hour access to our website, and will receive our daily email newsletter Daily Triage. This is a personal subscription. If you are planning to share your online login you should purchase a group subscription providing logins for a number of people.

How do group online subscriptions work?
We have three group online subscriptions:

1.     5 - 9 users
2.    10 – 20 users
3.    21 – 40 users
This group subscription is a set price for each group. You can add additional users up to the maximum number for your group at no extra charge. These subscriptions are suitable for businesses, organisations or institutions.

THE ‘OTHER FOLK’ SUBSCRIPTION

I’m not a GP, can I subscribe to New Zealand Doctor?
New Zealand Doctor is intended for a health professional readership but we know our news coverage of the general practice section, primary care and the wider health sector is of interest to others in the sector. You can buy the “Other Folk” subscription for $230 a year. This subscription includes a fortnightly copy of the newspaper sent to an address of your choice, full access to nzdoctor.co.nz and, delivered into your email inbox each day, our email newsletter Daily Triage. This print and online subscription also includes three Free Classified advertisements, online and print, in a 12-month period. The Free Classified ads are only available to individual subscribers. Can I opt out of my subscription at any time?

The short answer is – No. We want you to make an informed decision about subscribing, so we work hard to provide as much information as we can about the publication.  Our terms are that payment is made in advance for a three-month period, so there is no refund for cancelling your subscription. If you are a medical practice who has purchased a subscription for one of your team and they leave, we can transfer the subscription to a new team member.
