This year's Budget will be delivered today (28 May) by finance minister Bill English.  New Zealand Doctor will be in the Budget lock-up and the editorial team is providing coverage and feedback on items affecting the health sector.  Mr English will start his Budget speech to the House at 2pm

Health highlights of Budget 2009
The Government has allocated more than 40 per cent of all new funding for Budget 2009 to health. An extra $3 billion is going into health sector over the next four years, including $750 million in 2009/10.

Budget figures at a glance

Over the next three years the economy will lose around $50 billion of output, compared with what was forecast in Budget 2008.

Other key areas of Budget spending
National Superannuation payments will be locked in at 66 per cent of the average wage to be paid at age 65 - $18.6 million.
